David Jenkin
David
Jenkin has
spent his entire career in the retailing industry. He rose from department
buyer to Regional Chief Executive of The Myer Emporium Ltd., and Board
Member. David has consulted to retailers in Australia, negotiated in Japan
and the United States to bring unique retailers to Australia, and been a
Board Member of five national specialty chains. He has advised governments
on retail policy and retail projects.
David
also has worked with a single store retailer over the last seven years,
helping to take the shop from a substantial loss to a significant profit
position where in 2005, and again in 2006, it was voted by its peers as
‘Best of Class’ in its category. |

He has
actively observed retailing in more than sixty countries and acts as a
mentor to individual retailers.
In
addition to his involvement in retailing David has had a twenty year
association with the global humanitarian organization, World Vision, and was
the first non- American to chair the International Board (based in the
U.S.A.).
He has
spoken at conferences in Australia and overseas; in 2006 he was a Key-note
speaker at the National Retail Forum.
In
1998 he was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia.

The Hon. Joe
Helper
MP, Minister for Small Business
The
Minister will provide an opportunity to hear and discuss small business
issues that face Newsagents. Minister Helper will outline how the state
government supports small business and what small business initiatives are
on offer to Newsagents.
VANA believes that
this is an excellent opportunity for Newsagents to discuss with the State
Government what our industry feedback is on policies that affect Newsagents. |

Paul Ryan graduated
from UNSW in 1977 with degrees in Commerce (IR) and Law.
Paul has spent over
20 years in the transport and logistics industry, specialising in industrial
relations.
Paul is the
National Industrial Advisor for both the Victorian Transport Association (VTA)
and Australian Road Transport Industrial Organisation (ARTIO) and is
currently assisting the

Bernadette Schwerdt

Australian School of Copywriting
Founder and
Managing Director, Australian School of Copywriting. Bernadette Schwerdt
founded the Australian School of Copywriting in 2001, an institution that
assists individuals write copy for their own businesses or to become
freelance copywriters working for small businesses. As a former reporter on
Channel 9’s The Small Business Show, she is an expert at coaching and
guiding small businesses on how to create maximum impact with limited
dollars. She is a professional copywriter as well as a lecturer in marketing
and communications at RMIT, University of Melbourne and other institutions.

with the Harry M. Miller Group, where she worked with clients such as Maggie

Sally Sinclair-
National Employment Services
Association
Sally is CEO of the
National Employment Services Association (NESA), the peak body covering the
Employment Services Industry in Australia. She has extensive experience
designing, developing and delivering employment services.
Sally has held industry and government appointments including convening
numerous employment services reference groups and working parties. She also
has extensive experience both in business and as the CEO of both private and
community sector organisations delivering a range of government and
philanthropically funded employment services. |

Sally has a BSc (Hons)
majoring in Neuropsychology from the University of Melbourne.
Sally
will inform Newsagents on incentives and initiatives that Newsagents can tap
into when looking for new staff. Sally will also discuss the finer points
on selecting the right staff member and the right employment service
provider that will help with your needs.
There are grants
available for employers and Sally will explain how to get them.
