The VANA Award  For Outstanding Contribution to the Newsagency Industry has been created  to recognise and honour noteworthy individuals for outstanding contribution to the advancement of the Newsagency Industry.

 

The inaugural Outstanding Contribution Award has been presented to:

RON THORPE

 

During many years of employment with Hallmark, Ron has been an influential and respected leader within the industry. He began working with Hallmark in 1967 as a Sale cadet. While he’s had many sales positions, Ron has always focused on what he does best - driving business growth. As you all know, Ron recently retired from Hallmark, but his passion is such that he’s still working a few days a week while keeping up his involvement with the newsagents’ association. He is currently the Chairman of VANA Retail Strategic Committee and involved with one of VANA major projects.

The VANA Award For Outstanding Contribution to the Newsagency Industry has been created to recognise these people and their outstanding contributions to the industry.

Guidelines For Nomination and Election Into the VANA Medal for Outstanding Contribution

 

ELIGIBILITY


Candidates must meet the following requirements in order to be eligible for Enshrinement into the VANA Award For Outstanding Contribution to the Newsagency Industry:

·     A person is eligible for Enshrinement at any time for significant contributions to the Industry. What constitutes "significant contribution" shall be determined by the VANA Board. This may have occurred over time or be a one off major contribution.

 

NOMINATION PROCESS


A Nomination consists of a recommendation made by the Chairman or the Chief Executive Officer, yearly, with factual data about the candidate.

This recommendation shall be submitted and reviewed by the Board of VANA.  The honoured member(s) will be announced at the VANA Annual Gala Dinner by the VANA Chairman.

RESPONSIBILITY OF THE VANA BOARD 

The VANA Board  will vote on candidates who are recommended to be put forth. A candidate will be deemed worthy of Enshrinement upon an unanimous vote.

The VANA Board also have the responsibility to determine if an individual has damaged the integrity of the Industry. Then he or she shall be removed from the VANA Outstanding Contribution Award to the Newsagency Industry.
